Littlest Pet Shop Garden Cake

This cake was for my oldest daughter's 4th birthday. We had a lot of fun with it!! Again, I used the store bought frosting, but it worked well enough. The cake had been baked and pieced together the day before, so before her party on her birthday my daughter helped me decorate it.First we had to mix the colors and frost it.
Next, we added the borders and icing decorations.Last we put on the Littlest Pet Shop picnic pieces. I think it turned out very cute!

I love this cake, what a cute idea. What size cake pans did you use, standard 9"?

Yes. They were the 9 inch rounds.

What did you use as a cake board? And how big does it have to be?

I just cut a big piece of cardboard out of a big box and covered it with aluminum foil. As for the size, it was probably between 20 and 24 inches square--I just measured it after baking my cakes and putting them together. Thanks for checking out my blog!
I guess I should update it, huh? ;*)

I LOVE THIS CAKE! AND NOW WANT TO MAKE IT! I have a few questions... what type of icing did you use? or did you just buy white and use food coloring? did you make the cakes one day and just decorate the day after? are those cakes bottom side up or did you slice off the extra on top? what is the best stuff to use for cakes not to stick?

I just bought white vanilla frosting and used food coloring. I did make them on one day, then decorate them the day after. (Much easier that way!) I didn't slice off the extra cake on the top of these since they were just one layer, and I didn't mind them being rounded on top. To keep cakes from sticking (in the pan, I'm guessing is what you mean), I just use crisco and flour. Thanks for looking at my blog.

What icing tips did you use for this cake?

Which icing tips did you use to decorate?

For the borders I used a large star tip, probably #30 (it's been a long time so that's my best guess). The vines were done with a #3 or #4. Then for the flower petals I used a rose tip (#104). Finally, the leaves were done with a leaf tip (#352). Hope this helps!!
